Splurge vs. Save: Spring Must Haves

It’s currently snowing here in Tennessee…which I’m not too happy about. I swear every time I try to transition my closet from winter to spring, we get hit with another cold snap. Maybe I’m jinxing it, I don’t know. When it comes to fashion, there will always be new trends. So, when is it ok to splurge and treat yourself as opposed to being a little more stingy with your cash? I’m going to break down some of spring’s biggest trends and let you know my opinion on the splurge vs. save debate!

Trend: Denim

Verdict: It depends. I know that’s kinda cheating, but hear me out. When it comes to jeans, I say splurge. Denim is a staple piece that will never go out of style, so you’ll be wearing it for years to come. Plus, in my experience, well made jeans are practically indestructible. It’s definitely worth the investment if you ask me. Here are some splurge worthy jeans that will look great with everything you pair with them:

Denim jackets are also super popular. I recently got one from H&M, and I love it. It’s super soft, which is important to me because I hate stiff jackets. In this case, I think you can definitely save. I spent just over $30 for mine, and I get compliments on it all the time. You can shop some of my denim jacket picks below:

Trend: Pattern Obsessed (Florals, Gingham, and Polka Dots, Oh My!)

Verdict: Save. There are so many places that create high quality, trendy pieces for a reasonable price. I just can’t justify spending $100’s on a a sundress when I can get it so much cheaper somewhere else. Prints are pieces you’ll wear, but probably not daily or even weekly. If you’re not much of a print person, try easing into it by incorporating prints or patterns into your accessories. I’ve linked both clothing and accessories below:

Trend: The Trench

Verdict: Splurge. A reinvented version of the trench coat is making a comeback. When it comes to outerwear, I think it’s ok to splurge. It needs to functional as well as fashionable, but it doesn’t have to be boring. Look for a fun, spring color to brighten up your outfit! You can pair these coats with anything from jeans and a graphic tee to business dresses and suits. I love throwing mine over a basic white tee and jeans, because it makes it look like I put more effort into the outfit than I really did…and who doesn’t want that?! My exact trench coat was from one of Cabi Clothing’s previous collections, but they have a new, updated version here!

Trend: Espadrilles

Verdict: Save. So many affordable brands have made designer dupes, so unless you’re dying for the name brand, it isn’t necessary to shell out your entire paycheck for a pair of espadrilles. There’s so many different styles, which makes it easy for everyone to embrace this trend.

What are some of your favorite spring trends? When do you tend to splurge, and when do you find yourself trying to save? I’d love to hear from you guys. Have a great week!
